I have recently become friends with one of my remarkable clients, John O’Steen. As we were getting to know each other, I learned some amazing things about his life and wanted to share them with you.
I met John while shooting the 2019 Space Coast Porsche Club Calendar. Each year the Space Coast Chapter of the Porsche Club of America gets together to make a calendar to support a charity This year it was the Women’s Center, an organization I have proudly worked with in the past.
John ahs been a member of the Porsche Club of America for FIFTY years. He joined in February in ’69, so to say he likes cars is an understatement.
In April of ’67 he graduated college and had to buy a car to get to his new job. He picked up a used ’66 Porsche 912 that a professor was selling on a bulletin board on campus. Almost immediately after, he headed to Augusta, Georgia. This purchase was just the beginning. While he was there he ended up meeting “Porsche People.” (My kind of people!) From there he bought a ’59 Racing Porsche and started auto-crossing. After seeing his skills, John’s buddies convinced him to give “real” racing a try. After racing school, and a lot of dedication and time, he became a professional driver, mostly behind the wheel of a Porsche.
Although he has driven many cars in his career, his first win was in a 1958 Porsche Speedster, which he still osns. The beautiful sports car became the focus of one of our shoots.
John is an incredibly humble and kind person and his words about your experience made it even more memorable.
“I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it was great, Ray is clearly very good and very professional. He took a number of great photos and I was surprised! I know they would be good, but I had no idea how good. We’ve clicked and became great friends. I now have two great shots printed of my cars. I enjoyed it enough to sign up for next years calendar!”
